The Sendokan Dojo is a Japan Hombu certified dojo and we are closely affiliated with the top instructors in the world practicing Yoshinkan Aikido today. All of our in-house instructors are Japan certified as well and our chief instructor, who trained and taught at the honbu dojo and received his 7th dan and his Shihan title (Master Instructor title) in June of 2018, was among a handful of Senshusei alumni to be trained in Japan.
Is Aikido right for you? What are its benefits?
It can be said of Aikido that it is truly for all ages, genders, walks of life and strength levels. Since the essence of Aikido relies on redirecting the attackers energies back upon them, a focus is placed on technique rather than brute strength. The elegance of Aikido is in mastery of another’s physical attack by using their force against them. An Aikidoka (One who practices Aikido) learns how to do this over time by working with their training partners (Uke and Shite). This relationship is unique in Aikido. We are the official Sendokan Dojo. As an officially recognized Yoshinkan Aikido Dojo our martial arts school has the history, senior instruction and affiliation with world-class Aikido instructors who visit our school bi-annually for expert instruction. We leverage all these unique qualities to deliver exceptional quality of instruction and care for all our students regardless of age, race or gender.
Our dojo focuses on instruction for all Aikidoka (practitioners of Aikido) who wish to advance their knowledge, physical and mental ability and excel in this exciting and beautiful traditional Japanese martial art. Conveniently located in the heart of Mississauga, students from all over the GTA and Peel enjoy easy access to our school via major transit routes and highways. We have students who regularly attend classes travelling from Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Hamilton, Etobicoke and Toronto.
The global pandemic has had a negative impact on everyone’s mental health and wellbeing, now there is empirical research to prove that training in Martial Arts helps us in many, many ways.
In the March edition of “Teacher” published by the Australian Council for Educational Research, an article written by Rebecca Vukovic, reviews research and speaks with a researcher about the mental health and well being benefits of training in a Martial Art.
We may be biased, but since some of the core principles of Aikido is internal and mental calmness and being centered physically mentally and spiritually, we can confidently say that Yoshinkan Aikido is effective and good for your mental health.
